Hartlepool Congress 2007

The Peterlee posse won money in all sections apart from the Minor at the weekend. Your roving reporters main goal was excessive alcohol consumption which was achieved with relative ease! My memory of the tournament is a tad hazy, but I think the boys finished as follows;

Simpson 3rd in the Open, Smith 2nd in the Major, Carter won the Intermediate with Reddington coming in a close 2nd. In the Open, Armbruster scored a solid 50% as did Brown in the Minor, only 'Lord' Kenny Boxall had a below par performance scoring 1/5. Here is an example of why he had such a bad tournament. Here is an interesting game Armbruster played, and a wild draw I watched on Sunday afternoon between 'dangerous' Dave Richardson and Phil Mitcheson both from the Boro.

And now to our one and only winner from the weekend 'the big guy' Stephen Carter. I've got three games to impart, one demolition job, one 'lucky' draw and one lucky win, have I mentioned he was lucky at all? They say you need a little bit of luck to win, but sheesh come on!! :-)) Only kidding, S.C. played some superb stuff to win in fine style!

There is a local 'bad boy' who is infamous for 'managing' his grade, to enter weaker sections and 'clean up' He's been banned from a few tournaments too; If he loses his first game he tends to lose them all. Going into the last round on Sunday afternoon he was well out of the money, the players had taken their seats and were about ten minutes into their games when low and behold his Mobile Phone went off, the irony was just before the round started the arbiter warned the players that such a misdemeanour would result in the forfeit of the game! Now then, who is thinking the same thing as me? Funniest moment of the weekend for me.

A grand weekend had by all.
