How Much? Club Membership - £10 a year . English Chess Federation Bronze Membership - £16 Catholic Club Membership - £3 Petrol Money around - £6 Giving a grand total of around £35 a year to be a fully paid up member. Please be aware that you're under no obligation to pay up straight away. You can use your first few visits to 'test the water' to get to know the surroundings and players. If you like what you see then, great! |

When? Club nights are EVERY Tuesday evening from 7.30pm 'ish' until we're kicked out! Rain, Hail or Shine, we're open all year, the only exception being when 'chess night' falls on Christmas or New years day/eve! |

Who? We currently have 18 members, so we're a small/medium sized club and totally dedicated. We play one team in the Durham league which is used primarily to give the inexperienced players a game. We have two teams in the Cleveland league, one of which, the Peterlee A team are currently the champions of Cleveland and have been for the last three years in a row! We are aslo the current holders of the Cleveland Knockout Cup, and have won it for the last four years in a row! The Cleveland second team 'The Bishopbashers' like the Durham League team is also used to give every one a game.
We have some of the best (and worst) players in the North East! So we're perfect for the beginner or the more experienced players out there. The general public have a stereotypical view of chess players as geeky, bearded, bespectacled brainiacs, its a myth which we at Peterlee aim to blow well and truly out of the water! I'd say the term 'rough diamonds' describes the membership of our club most accurately. We're also fairly unique in that we drink more than your average darts team. (well, some of us do!) Its perhaps not the most child-friendly environment, but hey, if they're willing pay for their round, bring them down! Some clubs can seem a little aloof, that's definitely not us at Peterlee! |

Why? If you live in Seaham, Easington, Horden, Blackhall, Wingate, Trimdon, Wheatley Hill, Thornley, Shotton, Haswell, Murton, Cassop, Coxhoe, Sunderland, Sedgefield, Ryhope (and anywhere else within a 15 mile radius, plus Jarrow) Oh, and of course Peterlee, WE are your local club, so why not give us a try? You'll be guaranteed a warm welcome. A word of warning though, if you're a beginner be mentally prepared to get beat, many many times! We will help you as much as we can to improve, and more importantly enjoy your chess! Persevere and you will succeed, (with our help of course) the 'buzz' when you get that first win under the belt is amazing!
